What there is instead: converted woolstores, warehouse apartment conversions, townhouse rows off Commercial Road and Longland Street, and newer residential towers around Gasworks and the river.

Courtyard pools leave almost no room outside the barrier. Planters, benches, bin storage and air-conditioning units routinely end up inside the 900 mm zone because there is nowhere else for them.
Heritage conversion quirks
Woolstore and warehouse conversions have structural columns, brick piers and level changes that were never designed around a pool. They are workable, but they need a proper look rather than an assumption.
None of these mean an automatic fail. Most are small, many are fixed on the day, and you will always get a plain explanation of what we found and why it matters.

The gate self-closes and self-latches from any position, with the latch out of a child's reach.
Non-climbable zone
Nothing climbable, like pots, taps, trees or furniture, within the 900 mm zone outside the fence.
Doors & windows
Any windows or doors opening to the pool area meet the barrier requirements.
CPR sign
A current, compliant CPR sign is displayed near the pool.

- The pool in my building is shared. Do I need a certificate? Generally not as an individual owner. Where a pool is common property serving multiple lots, arranging the pool safety certificate is usually the body corporate's responsibility. Call us and we will confirm which situation applies to your complex, free.
- I have a small courtyard plunge pool. Is it treated differently? The same standard applies regardless of pool size. What changes on a courtyard pool is that the building and its openings usually form part of the barrier, and there is very little room for the non-climbable zone, so the assessment focuses there.
- My apartment opens onto the pool terrace through a stacker door. Does that comply? Not on its own. Where a wall of the dwelling forms part of the barrier, doors in it have to meet the barrier requirements. There are compliant approaches and we will explain what fits your layout.
